A huge thank you...

... to all who made OPEN GARDENS 2019 such a success
The weather gods were kind and the gardens were magnificent for the 850+ people who took part in this year’s event. Over £5,700 has been raised for St Barbe to help produce such amazing exhibitions as Command of The Sea, a significant contribution in an age of very tight funding
None of this would be possible if not for the amazing generosity of the garden owners without who there wouldn’t be an event, the helpers who gave of their time, garden produce, baking skills and support in so many ways. Thanks also go to our generous sponsors, New Forest Cottages, and both Everton and Otters nurseries who provided plants.
This was our first Open Gardens since our refurbishment and nearly 400 people called into the museum to buy programmes before or on the day, greatly increasing our exposure to new audiences and boosting the coffee shop trade for a Sunday afternoon considerably! It also made people attending far more aware of our connection to the event boosting our profile in town and popularity.
Despite a small mountain of cakes the nearly 300 tea drinkers made short work of them, exhausting the tea ladies in the process, many thanks to the United Reform Church for the use of their facilities. Final thanks go to the green fingered helpers, mainly from Lymington Garden Group who manned the plant stalls, it does help if you know what you are selling!
All in all, it was a great day and lovely to see so many people walking around town brandishing their fuchsia pink rose strewn programmes and having a marvellous time – we are back in 2021 so for all those inspired to open next time start planting!
